CO94 Changes in Demographic and Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) Initiating Subcutaneous Semaglutide

Characteristics of patients prescribed new medications often evolve over time after market launch. To explore this, our analysis described baseline demographic and clinical characteristics as well antidiabetic medication use in T2DM initiating subcutaneous semaglutide from its introduction the US a commercially-insured/Medicare Advantage population. between 2/1/2017-3/31/2020 were identified using HealthCore Integrated Research Database quarterly segments (index first claim). Patients included with ≥1 year pre-index enrollment claim. stratified based on prior glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1) (experienced/naïve). Baseline demographic, descriptively reported. Eight refreshes included, totaling 31,031 (20,272 GLP-1 naïve, 10,759 GLP-experienced). Most both groups by endocrinologists at baseline, this trend slowly decreasing PCPs becoming primary prescribers during later quarters. The most common anti-diabetic groups, to initiation, metformin (77.6% baseline) sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors (41.3%), SGLT2 inhibitor rates decreasing. had HbA1c levels above 7% (66.2-74.0% experienced patients, 73.7-83.5% naïve), no significant trends. Non-anti-diabetic prescribing high including antihypertensives (79.9-81.7%) lipid lowering therapy (71.9-73.7%). Roughly 34% antidepressants (35.5% among experienced, 32.9% naïve). comorbidities hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, obesity, sleep apnea, trends also staying stable. After launch, T2D population changes demographics, characteristics, treatment use. Continuous monitoring these ensures that, provider types patient subgroups evolve, healthcare practitioners have up-to-date relevant information managing T2DM.
